Cadmium reduction
WWTP
In May 2012, CROMADORA INTERNATIONAL faced a problem with high concentration of cadmium in their wastewater, which exceeded the allowed limits in Nogales, Sonora. The situation threatened the closure of the business due to the impossibility of complying with environmental regulations. Prokisa's timely intervention allowed to successfully solve the problem.
Problem
INTERNATIONAL CROMADOR was discharging wastewater with a cadmium concentration of 1100 ppm, well above the allowed limit of 0.75 ppm. The lack of clarity on how to comply with the regulations and the inability of the OMAPAS auditors to provide a practical solution put the continuity of the business at risk. The situation worsened as the water was contaminated with cadmium, leading to the temporary suspension of the discharge permit.

The problem was resolved through the intervention of Prokisa, which, after receiving water samples, identified the high concentration of cadmium. By applying a heavy metal precipitator, it managed to reduce the cadmium to less than 0.10 ppm in subsequent tests. This effective solution allowed CROMADORA INTERNACIONAL to continue operating without issues and obtaining the discharge license. Eventually, the use of cadmium in the process was suspended, consolidating the long-term solution.
